Description:
Bobby Griffith was an all-American boy ...and he was gay. Faced with an irresolvable conflict-for both his family and his religion taught him that being gay was "wrong"-Bobby chose to take his own life.

Prayers for Bobby, nominated for a 1996 Lambda Literary Award, is the story of the emotional journey that led Bobby to this tragic conclusion. But it is also the story of Bobby's mother, a fearful churchgoer who first prayed that her son would be "healed," then anguished over his suicide, and ultimately transformed herself into a national crusader for gay and lesbian youth.

As told through Bobby's poignant journal entries and his mother's reminiscences, Prayers for Bobby is at once a moving personal story, a true profile in courage, and a call to arms to parents everywhere.

Equality For All - This is one of the most inspirational, if not, THE most inspirational books I have ever read. Everyone deserves the right to be happy but for some people it takes something bigger for that happiness to become a reality. A book about learning to love someone JUST as they are, "Prayers For Bobby" is a MUST-READ for everyone. If the world could read this book, there would be less violence, heartache, and wars and the world would be UNITED under EQUALITY.

Prayers for Bobby - I was born gay as proven by doctors using body temperature testing. A few years ago I came very close to taking my own life as the result of the church's attitude towards me simply because I am gay. I worked as a Baptist Pastor and Missionary myself. This book and the movie were particularly moving for me. When I saw Bobby, that was me, right there.

I will argue until the day I die as strongly as I can that the original Hebrew and Greek scriptures do NOT agree with the translations we commonly use. The translators have LIED. Strong words but true. If I can save one more gay from suicide and help families cope with their son or daughter who is gay, I will do everything in my power to do that. This is a major part of the solution to the dilema the church has with homosexuality today. If good conservative evangelicals would stop LYING from scripture, it would go a long way to solving the problems that gays face in our churches. When in doubt, why not just say what Jesus said?

I strongly recommend the book "Prayers for Bobby" and the movie.

Prayers for Bobby - a moving and sobering story - What a story, and it is a true story. It took the life of her son Bobby for Mary to realize the downfall of organized religion (OR), regardless how much good OR has done. The folks what quote the scriptures to judge people ought to read this book and take note. No matter how much knowledge one has about the Bible or any holy scriptures, it is always just one's interpretation of what it says. The 6 days of creation could not have been literally 6 days, could it or the universe is only less that 5800 years old from creation to Adam and Eve till now. The biggest blasphemy is committed by OR such as when the idea of the Originally Sin was conceived. If we as a society do not approve "guilt by association", how could we possibly accuse GOD of doing so. Isn't God a giver of unconditional love. Another example of blasphemy committed by OR is that God is to be feared. If our children are not to fear but love us as parents, why would an almighty being want us to fear IT? Most OR use the fear tactic to gain control of their members, It is a sad case that so many people even smart ones fall for such simple tricks. Bobby's mission in life was perhaps to bring the Gay issue to the forefront after his death. Mary responded and so did many others. The story will stay with us to remind us not to be judgemental and that we are all children of the Alimighty whoever and whatever It is.

I keep copies of this book ready to give out to parents - I am the mother of a gay child, and I suggest all parents of LGBT children read this book. I carry copies of this book to give out to others, because it such an amazing story of a mother who challenged everything about herself and her beliefs, to bring hope and educate others.

Good book! - I watched the movie prior to reading the book. Usually, the books always better than the movie, but in this case ... The movie was better. All in all, it's a great story!
