Description:
Social Problems in a Diverse Society, Second Edition, emphasizes the centrality of race, class, and gender in understanding people's "lived experiences" and the structure of society. People - especially white women and people of color - are shown not as "victims" of social problems but also as bringing about changes in families, schools, and the workplace. All three of the main sociological theories are included throughout and are presented in an inclusive manner. Contemporary feminist and humanist perspectives are integrated throughout as well. Kendall invites readers to analyze how social policies reflect the various interests and values of the parties involved. For anyone interested in sociology and gender.

Kendall is an excellent writer! - I was very pleased with the sections of Kendall's book which I have read. She provides coverage of topics not included in other social problems texts. For example, she includes chapters on inequality based on age and sexual orientation, and the issues that arise with those. Her chapters are well-organized, and her writing is straight-forward and easy to understand. She covers micro and macro issues extensively and thoroughly. Great book!
