Description:
An indispensable survival manual for guys entering the trenches of fatherhood, Be Prepared is loaded with one-of-a-kind insights, MacGyver-esque tips and tricks, and no-nonsense advice for mastering the first year as a dad.

Finally, a book that teaches men all the things they really need to know about fatherhood...including how to:

• change a baby at a packed sports stadium

• create a decoy drawer full of old wallets, remote controls, and cell phones to throw baby off the scent of your real gear

• stay awake (or at least upright) at work

• babyproof a hotel room in four minutes flat

• construct an emergency diaper out of a towel, a sock, and duct tape

Packed with helpful diagrams and detailed instructions, and delivered with a wry sense of humor, Be Prepared is the ultimate guide for sleep-deprived, applesauce-covered fathers everywhere.

Description:
Take your average guide for new mothers, chuck most of the stuff about breast feeding and ditch the deep background research and stats, then generously pepper with illustrations and burley humor and what do you have? Your average guide for new fathers. Be Prepared follows that template pretty closely, and that's really quite an acceptable thing. Yes, there's a bit too much emphasis here on broadly drawn manly stuff like changing a diaper at a ballgame, but there's also heaps of useful advice that's cleverly and efficiently presented for pops who, despite their best intentions, really aren't prepared to dig into encyclopedia-sized tomes. The basics (childproofing, bathing, feeding, entertaining) intermix with nifty sidebars (homemade bath toys, foods to never give your baby, exercises for dads) in easy-to-peruse chapters organized according to the age of the offspring up to age 1. There are more thorough how-to guides for new dads, but for most men moving into fatherhood, Be Prepared will fill the bill. --Steven Stolder

Excellent, realistic parenting book - Most parenting books make you feel overwhelmed with information about how to be a perfect parent, not this one. It has very useful and practical information and advice in a very refreshing way. Not only did I loved it but my wife couldn't get enough of it, she said she wished she had read it before our girl was born. I highly recommend it, not only for new dads but also for new moms!

humorous and practical - I gave this book to my son in law for a couple's baby shower. I read it before I gave it to him. He agrees it is humorous with very practical tips and ideas. A fun gift for the first time dad to be.

No better "New Dad" book out there!!! - I gave this book to my husband before our son arrived because he's an Eagle Scout and I thought it was cute. It turned out that it was one of the best pre-baby purchases I made! Not only is the information appropriate and accurate, easy to "bathroom" read and completely Dad-centered, but it's light-hearted and fun and includes things you'd never find in any "New Mom" book. I'm an early childhood teacher and have had tons of experience with children and yet I learned new things by reading this book. It also gives lots of wonderful ideas for interacting with your new baby that Dads would enjoy, such as watching Sports Center, because of all the colors and movement. It's a short book, only covering the "need-to-know" basics, which means it's more likely to be read all the way through. The cute, witty diagrams and illustrations make the book entertaining as well as educational.

I would highly recommend this book to every new parent, Mom or Dad!

Good Info, Presented Well - As a soon to be first-time dad, I've been trying to learn all I can about caring for a newborn. Unlike some other books that focused more on discussing your feelings as a first time parent rather than giving practical advice, this book focuses on the skills you'll need during the first year. The information is straightforward, easy to understand, and is presented in a humorous manner. Of the half-dozen books I've read on preparing for a newborn, this one is my favorite.
