Married 28 years...If we had read this book we might still be! - I was married for 28 years....we would not have gotten a divorce if we had read this book years ago! Not just for those thinking about getting married...this book is for everyone experiencing difficulity at any time!

Preaches Christanity, Refers to all women being one way, all men being another. - I was so excited to order and recieve this book, as I am getting married in September '10 to my boyfriend of 7 years. I even ordered the workbooks. We were heartbreakingly disappointed in all of them. I'm glad it's helped others, but it's not for us and we'll be returning them.

We were particularly irritated at the sections that speak of the three things "women" need and the three things that "men" need - things that their partner is responsible to give them. According to the book, I'm more of a man than a woman (and my fiance would be the first to disagree with that one!)I was enraged by the condescending tone of it all, which the book says is very uncommon for women to feel when disrespected. My fiance gently says it pissed him off too, saying that the book is trying to tell us how we feel and think as if we were incompetent and couldn't come up with anything on our own.

The chapter on "Are you each other's Soul Mate?" is nothing more than trying convert you or assuming you already are in the process of becoming a Christian. It preaches about praying together making for better sex and a better marriage, going to church every sunday, and worshiping not only a god, but THEIR god and Jesus. My fiance and I are agnostic with our own spiritual beliefs. No happy marriages for jewish, atheist, hindu, buddist, agnostic, moslim, or most people according to this book it seems! All because they didn't follow THEIR faith.

My bottom line is this: Men want to be listened to just as much as women. Women want respect just as much as men. Not all men like sports or need the same things. Not all women lose their sense of self when a man dismisses her. Men are NOT from Mars, Women are NOT from Venus and building stereotypes of such is just going to make for more frustration! I am much more pleased with our other relationship books that treat problems as habits and needs of individual people, not as if those habits or 'traits' were hardwired into men and others into women. Yes, the sexes are different, but so are the individuals within their own sex! I recommend "The power of two" workbook and book instead. Lots of communication advice that has helped us through the years. Good luck everyone. I hope this helped.

small but full of good stuff! - This is a tiny book, easy for carrying in a purse, or even a pocket! But it is full of great information and well worth reading. Whether you are thinking about marriage, engaged, newly married, or have been married for years, it has something for you somewhere inside. I highly recommend it!
