Writer Mama: How to Raise a Writing Career Alongside Your Kids - I LOVED this book! Even though I'm a writer mama of two teenagers I found invaluable, easy-to-understand, incredibly helpful advice on how to get started in my freelance writing career. Since reading the book, I actually sold my first article to a regional parenting magazine I'd been trying to break into for over a year! Christina Katz rocks! I highly recommend this book to anyone, mama or not, who wants to get started in a freelance writing career.

Excellent resource for writers of articles and non-fiction - Writer Mama is a practical guide to leveraging different types of writing into a profitable career if you are weaving writing in with raising your kids. The book is full of tips and helpful information applicable to any type of writing.

Readers who will most benefit from this book are those who are interested in writing articles or non-fiction. Writer Mama will help you to determine the types of writing you feel best suited for or inclined to pursue, and help you get there. In her discussions of different types of articles and publication, author Christina Katz shows how you can build your portfolio with one type of writing to get to another level, and how not to get bogged down short of your goal. For example, if your dream is to have a column in your local newspaper, you might write short clips and build a portfolio before pitching a regular column. But if your goal is to write feature articles in national magazines, you might start at the same place and even try a local column, but you wouldn't stop there. If you're interested in publishing a non-fiction book, Writer Mama would be immensely helpful to you in building your platform and then understanding how best to pitch your idea. I think bloggers would also benefit from Katz's ideas for article topics and different types of articles, as many of them would translate well to blog posts.

The book every Freelance Writing Mother MUST Have! - This is a wonderful little book aimed specifically for busy moms who want to be freelance writers or book authors. It shows you how to balance the myriad responsibilities of motherhood with the long-term and short-term goals you have as a writer.

As the editor for the Bella Online Moms site, I need to come up with ideas for new content each week and I am constantly looking for ways to improve my writing skills. This little book fit the bill perfectly.

It's chock full of great ideas for improving every aspect of your writing. Ii is also the perfect size for slipping into your bag and is very attractively presented.

It has been divided into 4 main sections :
PREPARATION: In this section you learn more about the attitudes and tools that successful mommy writers use and how to adapt them for your unique style of writing.

PRACTICE: This section shows you how to build your basic writing skills and is filled with lots of helpful tips on writing anything from full-length articles to essays. You will also learn how to submit your work with a basic cover letter. This chapter was very useful to me as a fledgling freelancer.

PROFESSIONALISM: Here you will learn how to query for assignments and when to send a query letter instead of a cover letter as well as how to complete longer assignments without losing your balance.

POISE: If you've ever wanted to be a well respected and recognized author then this chapter is definitely for you. This chapter will show you how to develop yourself and your talents so that you become recognized by agents and editors alike.

All in all this is a wonderful book for all writer mama's out there. No matter how experienced you are you are bound to learn something from this fabulous book.

This book has me off and running as a freelancer. - I bought this book a few weeks ago as I was toying with the idea of doing a bit of freelance writing part time. The book is well organized and has very clear exercises designed to get you thinking about your ideas and the markets to whom you may pitch those once they come to fruition as marketable stories.

I found the practical advice invaluable, but also appreciated the fun encouraging tone that inspired confidence to proceed with my freelancing efforts.

I have just submitted my first commissioned article for a newspaper, have another commissioned piece in the pipeline and I am working on two stories of my own which I hope to pitch in the not too distant future.

This book is a must for any mom looking to do a little bit of professional writing.
