Incredible Book on Marriage - Mike Mason has a way with taking God's Word on marriage and making it real for today. Marriages today can be as beautiful and as spiritual as he describes. I loved reading his book and learning how to make my marriage to my wonderful gift of a man, my husband, the very best it can be. A spirtual union made by God.

A wonderful book to get you looking up again in the slumps of marriage - I am a Youth and Family Minister, and as I was flying out to a Youth Workers Conference in the fall, as my husband and I had been talking about how we had been growing apart, how we had different goals for our lives etc. I knew I needed to work on my marriage while I was away for a week - not just work on my ministry. I looked for this book at Borders, Barnes and Noble, the library and had no luck. I thought i was out of luck... but then literally checked in for my flight, drove as fast as I could to the Christian book store on the other side of town, to find that they had moved, sped to their new location, to find they were not open, but were inside were unpacking. Of course, the man with the doctorate in spirituality who owns a bookstore, who has missioned for years in thailand, where he met his wife, who uses such quotes as "good theology should be shallow enough for the youngest of babes yet deep enough that the strongest of theologians should never touch bottom" seems to always know what you need without your even saying it... So he let me in, let me pay for the book with a check since the register wasnt even plugged in, and I was on the plane reading the intro within twenty minutes.
When I finished reading the intro. tears came to my eyes as I felt how much love this writer has for his wife. A true struggle to constantly share your life with someone, growing closer and closer, and then balance that with the constant desire to remain true to yourself and your "oneness". So true and so explanatory, eye opening and poetic. This book, literally, restructured my thoughts on marriage and the beautiful sacrament that it is. I will read this book whenever I am feeling low in my marriage and use Mike's words to re-inspire that beautiful commitment I made to my husband, myself and foremost to my God.

A Personal Meditation on the Joy and Wonder of Marriage - I have read or reviewed dozens of books on marriage. Some are good, some not so good, but none compare to The Mystery of Marriage by Mike Mason. If you are contemplating marriage, there is not better explanation of what it is. If you are married and have lost your way, this book is not just a road map but a landmark showing the way. But it's not a how to book. This is a meditation. It's almost poetry. 10 concepts which define the unique mystery of marriage are explored from the point of view of a passionate participant. There is scripture, but it's not a book of exposition. It's a book of exploration, and in Mason's own words, there is nothing so limitless to explore as a human being, execpt for two human beings joined together. I have purchased dozens of copies of this book since my then fiance and I read it together while we were engaged. 20 years later I have still not found a better encouragement to continue the exploration of the strange and marvelous celebration that is marriage. Whether you are unmarried or you've been married 50 years, you'll find profit in contemplating anew the Mystery of Marrige.

Real Marriage Defined - This book is exceptional and required reading for anyone interested in any way in the institution of marriage. I read it many years ago and bought a copy to give to my son and his wife (married August 7th 2009). Mike Mason has a way of tapping into the truth of who we are, what marriage is and how to enter into the union of two lives and reap the exceptional rewards if done based on the definition of marriage (and not some illusion). Read it and you'll be better for having done so.
