Description:
More than a tool to correct bad behavior, this handbook urges parents to move beyond typical discipline techniques by creating an environment based on mutual respect, emotional safety, and positive, open communication. The seven outlined principles redefine the parent-dominated family by teaching parents how to achieve mutual parent/child respect without being submissive, set firm limits without using demands or coercion, and empower children to open up, cooperate, and realize their own innate potential. Based on Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication process, the framework helps parents break down the barriers to outstanding relationships with their kids by avoiding destructive language and habits that keep parents and children from understanding one another. Activities, stories, and resources help parents immediately apply the seven keys to any parenting situation.

At last a respectful way to work with parents and children - I absolutely love this book. The language is wonderful and as I read the book I learnt that my behaviour was becoming more respectful. There are exercises that workers can use as interventions when working with families. A fantastic book.

AMAZING! - I am a former teacher (currently at home mom.) I absolutely loved this book. I do not think it's missing a thing. I think our schools are missing something. As a teacher I feel that all teachers/parents could benefit from reading this book. It is crazy to run a classroom of 25-30 kids, however it is not impossible to have a cooperative environment. I think every child deserves to be heard and deserves to be a part of the rule making environment of school. I think schools need this book more than ever! I am going to recommend this book to all of my former colleagues. Every parent and teacher should read this book. I have read many books on child development and rearing and this is one of the best.:o)

Children treated with respect become respectful adults - If children were treated according to the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) model in this book, there would be no need for the conflicts, rebellions and institutional and chemical controls that adults in our culture exert on children. This book familiarizes parents with Marshall Rosenberg's world-renowned NVC approach and helps parents use respectful and compassionate communication with their children in order to increase family harmony and cooperation. It may soon occur to parents that if the NVC approach is to be truly followed in your lives instead of just on the surface, homeschooling or a child-centered private school is the most emotionally, physically and socially healthy environment for a child's education.

Practical, practical and more practical! - I love this book. It validates, for me, what many wonderful books on parenting have to say. What is different though, is that the authors' have come up with strategies to help families learn to communicate; they give you things you can do both to self-reflect and to work with your child and family. Like learning any new language, or living a new philosophy, NVC can be daunting. I know because I have been on it's journey for over 6 years and have been very frustrated with how slow a learner I "think" I am. This book has given me a handle on it that has helped my learning tremendously. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And I've just purchased the No Fault Game on your web-site! I am so glad you put that together!!!!!
