Description: David Myers' Social Psychology continues to set the standard by which other Social Psychology texts are judged. Its renowned authors engaging writing style and unique, intimate voice make the text compelling without being simplistic. Customer Review: 4 out of 5 For a textbook, it's actually pretty decent. However, face it: you're buying this for a class so you really don't have a choice. - So, you're taking Social Psychology and this is the book that made it through the stringent textbook selection and review process, and now you find yourself blessed with the opportunity to pay 3x what a book is worth, because it's a textbook! Lucky you. Well, at least if you buy it here you'll save another $35 over what your campus bookstore wants you to pay for it. Go for it, I say! Stick to the man!
Customer Review: 2 out of 5 It's ok - The book took almost a month to get here and I received a different edition than the one offered.
Customer Review: 3 out of 5 Good book, lousy CD-ROM and Study Guide - I'm using this textbook to teach an undergraduate introductory course. The text is engaging and interesting. I sometimes wonder about the organization of the chapters, though - it often seems a bit disjointed.
As others have written, the CD-ROM is almost unusable. It will not run straight from the CD-ROM as it should on Windows XP - you need to hack into it by forcing your CD-ROM drive to show the files (right click, "browse..."), then choosing one of the .htm or .html files (I think "browser_check.html" was the one I succesfully used) to get it to function a little. Then you MIGHT be able to see the videos for each chapter - but even there, Quicktime often crashes. (I suspect the CD-ROM has not been updated for about 4 versions of Quicktime.) From what I could see from the videos, they are not terribly useful anyway, and I am not using them in my class - there is PLENTY of material on Youtube for this purpose.
The Study Guide is only useful if you plan on memorizing each chapter word for word - some of the questions are ridiculously specific, and I would never, as an instructor, expect students to know this level of detail from the text.
Oh, and the author does not even attempt to hide his liberal bias. Just ignore it (if you need to) and learn from his extensive knowledge.
Customer Review: 2 out of 5 social psychology with social sense student cd - The book had a lot of highlights in it especially in the back. It had yellow and orange. The student cd also did not work. I tried everything to install it but it did not work. I tried contacting the person I bought it from and I never got a response. The book itself is serving its purpose but I really wish the cd would of worked.
Thanks Mark..
Customer Review: 3 out of 5 Don't buy this for the CD! - Social Psychology with SocialSense Student CD-ROM The book is an excellent text book. I enjoy doing my required reading for class, however, the CD is very nearly worthless. I have tried it in Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and Mac OSX and can't get it working properly in any. This is after the company replaced it because the first one was defective. If you are very computer savvy and know how to search through the files on a CD, you might get something out of it. The exercises are pretty lame even after all the effort to find them. This company certainly should stick with books and leave the CDs to the pros!
