Excellent resource - I purchased this book to help me study for the DSST exam on Substance Abuse. It was very informative, well organized, and an easy read. I learned a lot from this book and I highly recommend it to people studying for the DSST exam, or people just looking to learn more about the history, use, and trends of every drug ever used. Food for thought, I passed the test with flying colors.

Perfect Substitute for 13th Edition - My roommate paid $113 for this at the university bookstore, I bought this for $5. I'm currently getting an A while hes got a C. No matter what, even the 13th Edition needs to be updated so your professor will fill that in with most current 2008-2009 data.

DSST - Bought the book as a self study book in preparation for DSST test SO495. I read through the book once and went back over a couple sections that I didn't understand well on the first read through. Max 10% of the book read twice. Then I went back through the summaries and typed them out while saying them to myself at the same time (memory aid). Read through the combined summaries a few times and I took the test. I managed to pass with 10-15% above the minimum score.

That being said, there was a lot on the test that I am pretty sure was not in the book. Probably at least about 10 - 15% of the entire test. When confronted with those questions I had the very distinct feeling that I had never seen the information before. I mostly just guessed on those.

If you learn quickly and you are good at recalling facts, you can get by with this as your sole study material. If not, I suggest getting another book as well. I got Drugs & Society (Purchased on 12/04/2009)
by Weldon L. Witters for that purpose, but didn't have the time to read it so I skipped it. I don't know if it will cover the answers not in the rated book, but it is worth a shot.
