Description:
Balancing biological, psychological, social and cultural approaches, ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY successfully blends sophisticated research (including new prevention coverage) with the most widely recognized method of discussing psychopathology. Going beyond simply describing different schools of thought on psychological disorders, the authors explore the interactions of the various forces that contribute to psychopathology. A conversational writing style, consistent pedagogical elements, integrated case studies (95 percent from authors' own files), video clips of clients (on the free accompanying Abnormal Psychology Live CD-ROM), and additional study tools make this text the most complete learning resource available.

paranoid personality disorder - I take issue withe the description of Jake the "research victim" with paranoid personality disorder.

First, there has been and continues to be non consensual human experimentation in the United States. Secondly, the goverment most certainly admitted to experiments in the past. What happened to the victims? If they were to come out now (as with the Veterans who are suing the government), will they automatically be classified as having "paranoid personality disorder?"

Condsider the following: The trauma caused by some kind of stalking coupled with constant harassment can lead to PTSD which in turn can lead to both brain damage to the hippocampus and amygdala. This PTSD can also cause personality disorders to develop including narcissistic, histronic, paranoid and borderline. Therefore someone who has been harassed by someone (say an NLP monkey or a few snitches paid to pretend to be "organized stalking perps") can easily develop problems, become susceptible to conspiracy theories about the origins of the harassment that they experienced and be revictimized and discredited both by the groups that are set up to help victims. (That is, I believe organized stalking and the like is a meme and that the groups lead to greater conspiratorial thinking when in reality there actually are victims.)

Are the authors dismissing any notion that there has been non consensual experimentation. I can vouch that there is. In my case, I also have witnesses to some of the harassment as well as evidence for the harassment. I can't say it's the CIA but unlike Jake in your story, but due to my background nobody would disbelieve me if I said it were.

The truth is somewhere in the middle - there are people who have been harassed and there are conspiracy theories about the widespread aspect and the origins of the harassment. Not everyone who claims to be a victim really is, but apparently everyone who is a victim will automatically get labeled if they come out. Before they were schizophrenics, now they have "paranoid personality disorder."

Look into Sargant's work on "breaking" people in the 1950s as well as what the MK Ultra subprojects constituted. A lot of the victims have extreme changes after the trauma of being harassed via NLP pseudoscience (anchoring and senstization to ordinary and unavoidable things), attacks with who knows what kind of weapons (and we really don't know what has been used on people), and the reaction of the rest who vary from being scared, being indifferent and assuming mental illnesses are involved.

Did the real research victims simply vanish? It looks like if their are breakthoughs in the discovery of ongoing black ops projects via both Guantanamo abuses and the veteran's lawsuits, some in your profession will have a lot of apologizing to do for further marginalizing victims. And since it appears that many in your profession have been involved, the apologies might have to run deeper than that.

Abnormal Psychology - The book was purchased for my daughter who's in her Sophmore year at a University. She informed me that the book was received on her second day of school, and in excellant condition. I paid slightly more that $15 for the book, where her class mates paid approximately $150 for the same book through the University.

I will continue to purchase her text books through Amazon when ever possible.

Inaccurate - Inaccurate on ME (CFS). For example, it says there is no evidence to support immune dysfunction or virus as causes.

Great product and seller! - I got exactly what I thought I was buying. This is a really convenient way to have a textbook, because you can just stick it in a three-ring binder and take it with you! Also, you can just take a few chapters if you want, or the whole book! The pages are a little thin, but it's a wonderful educational textbook. As a B.A. in psychology, I would recommend this book to anyone looking to have a great learning experience and a textbook that doesn't cost a fortune.
